A Meeting with a Nobel Laureate – Prof. Dan Shechtman

The East West Bridge Serbia delegation had the exceptional privilege of attending a lecture by and meeting in person Professor Dan Shechtman, winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry (2011), held at the Mathematical Grammar School in Belgrade.

Professor Shechtman, who received the Nobel Prize for the discovery of quasicrystals — a finding that was initially rejected by the scientific community and subsequently fundamentally changed our understanding of solid matter — spoke on this occasion, among other things, about the values of scientific perseverance, academic integrity, and the importance of encouraging young people to engage with science and innovation.

The contact established on this occasion opens a potential basis for future joint initiatives in the fields of education, science, and strategic dialogue, in the spirit of the mission of East West Bridge Serbia.
