Programmatic Areas
EWB Activities
East West Bridge develops its activities through clearly defined programmatic areas that serve as frameworks for analysis, strategic dialogue, and the exchange of perspectives on key international, political, and societal issues. Programmatic areas are not conceived as closed thematic units, but as flexible platforms that enable interdisciplinary approaches and the connection of diverse actors, regions, and experiences.
Foreign Policy and International Relations
This programmatic area is dedicated to the analysis of contemporary foreign policy processes and relations among states in a changing international environment. The focus is on understanding bilateral and multilateral relations, the role of international organizations, and the dynamics of the global order.
Special attention is given to examining how the interests of the Republic of Serbia and Serbian society can be responsibly articulated and represented in international relations, through dialogue, institutional engagement, and respect for international law, without ideological exclusivity or confrontational approaches.
European and Eurasian Integrations
This area focuses on the analysis of European and Eurasian integration processes and their political, economic, and institutional implications. The program includes a comparative examination of different models of integration, partnership, and cooperation, as well as their impact on sovereignty, development policies, and the international positioning of states.
The emphasis is placed on understanding the opportunities and constraints of these processes, while preserving space for independent decision-making and aligning integration choices with the long-term interests of the Republic of Serbia and its citizens.
Geopolitics and Security
This programmatic area explores contemporary geopolitical developments and security challenges in the global and broader regional context. The program addresses relations among major powers, transformations of the international security architecture, as well as political, military, and hybrid threats.
Particular emphasis is placed on analyzing the implications of these processes for stability, security, and the long-term interests of the Republic of Serbia, through a realistic, non-ideological, and analytical approach that contributes to a deeper understanding of complex security issues.
Democracy and Institutions
This area focuses on the analysis of democratic processes, the rule of law, and institutional capacities across different political and societal contexts. The program addresses institutional reforms, public policies, and comparative practices.
The objective is to enhance understanding of institutional resilience, accountability, and effectiveness as prerequisites for stable societal development and the protection of the legitimate interests of citizens, without normative model imposition or political advocacy.
Social and Cultural Channels of Dialogue
This programmatic area examines the role of social, cultural, and informal factors in international relations, with a particular focus on building trust, mutual understanding, and long-term cooperation among societies. The program is based on the understanding that international relations do not function exclusively through formal political and institutional mechanisms, but also through continuous interaction at the social and cultural levels.
The program includes consideration of:
- cultural exchanges and various forms of public and cultural diplomacy
- sport as a space for encounters, communication, and informal dialogue
- the role of public figures, cultural institutions, and societal actors
- social, identity-related, and symbolic dimensions of international relations
The aim of this programmatic area is to contribute to a better understanding of how social and cultural channels influence perceptions, relationships, and trust among societies, as well as their potential to complement formal diplomatic and political processes, in line with the long-term interests of the Republic of Serbia and its citizens.
Economy and Sustainable Development
This area focuses on the study of economic policies, development models, and global economic flows that shape contemporary international relations. The program covers issues of international trade, investment, financial flows, innovation, and sustainable development.
The objective is to contribute to an understanding of economic processes that affect economic growth, social stability, and long-term development, with particular attention to the economic interests and development priorities of the Republic of Serbia in a broader international context.
Energy and Infrastructure
This programmatic area addresses issues of energy and infrastructure as key factors of political stability, economic security, and development. The program includes analysis of energy flows, transition processes, diversification of sources and supply routes, as well as infrastructure projects of strategic importance.
Special attention is given to assessing the long-term implications of these processes for energy security, economic sustainability, and infrastructural connectivity, in line with the development and security interests of the Republic of Serbia.
Diaspora and Regional Cooperation
This programmatic area is dedicated to the role of the diaspora and cooperation among states and societies in the broader regional and international space. The program is based on the understanding that the diaspora represents an important resource of knowledge, experience, and international connectivity.
Particular focus is placed on the contribution of the Serbian diaspora to development, international positioning, and the protection of the long-term interests of the Republic of Serbia, as well as on enhancing regional cooperation through functional, pragmatic, and sustainable initiatives that transcend political and historical divisions.
Media and Public Diplomacy
This area focuses on the analysis of the role of media, public communication, and public diplomacy in contemporary international relations. The program covers the study of media narratives, strategic communication, and the influence of public opinion on the international positioning of states and societies.
Special attention is given to understanding how perceptions of political and social processes are shaped, as well as to the promotion of professional standards and responsible communication in support of international credibility and the long-term interests of the Republic of Serbia.
Digitalization, Information and Communication Technologies, and Artificial Intelligence (AI)
East West Bridge develops this programmatic area as a neutral and credible platform for strategic dialogue among decision-makers, technology leaders, the academic community, and security actors from diverse geopolitical environments.
Recognizing that digital technologies and artificial intelligence are becoming key factors in the strategic positioning of states, economies, and societies, EWB examines their political, security, regulatory, and ethical implications. Particular attention is given to issues of digital sovereignty, critical infrastructure security, standardization, responsible AI deployment, and the impact of emerging technologies on stability, trust, and international governance.
Through dialogue-based formats and analytical work, EWB contributes to a deeper understanding of technological transformations that often outpace existing political and regulatory capacities, fostering the development of a shared language and long-term cooperation in the field of digital transformation.
Analyses and Position Papers
East West Bridge develops analytical and position papers as a horizontal activity encompassing all programmatic areas. These publications represent a core tool for gaining deeper insight into contemporary international, political, and societal processes, as well as their implications for the Republic of Serbia and the broader environment.
EWB publications are not conceived as advocacy materials, but as a contribution to informed dialogue, policy analysis, and the critical examination of strategic documents and institutional processes. In certain cases, the documents may include the consideration of possible options or expert guidance, exclusively for the purpose of informing decision-making processes.
